Early 20th Century "Uncle Sam's" Nickel Register Bank Ballantine beer 32" H with 13" Dc. 1900s; J. & E. Stevens Co. Cromwell, CT Tin lithographed mechanical bank in the form of a miniature cash register, marked "Uncle Sam's Nickel Register Bank" across the front panel. Produced by the J. & E. Stevens Company of Cromwell, Connecticut, this bank was designed both as a toy and a savings aid, teaching children thrift by requiring nickels to operate the mechanism. When a coin is deposited, the bank rings a chime and advances the internal
