At the center is the Magic core set, representing the game in its purest form, evocative spells, menacing creatures, and infinite possibilities
It gets really spicy if your opponent has four or more nonbasic lands, as they likely do in Modern and beyond, because the ability then costs only two mana
This means that cards that make combat difficult like Silent Arbiter or just outright negate damage like Fog and Spore Frog can throw a wrench into any sliver players plans
An additional cost is something you pay on top of whatever base cost youre using (mana cost or alternative cost)
And thats not counting prowess bonuses or Slickshot Show-Off synergies
There are a couple of cards that players of the unsanctioned "as-written" format would appreciate, such as the aforementioned Corpse Knight, but for the most part they still aren't much more expensive than any properly-printed copies that may exist
